CCEA from Prague just received the EU funding for a project called CULBURB - CULTURAL ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT FOR SUBURBS and we are going to be there too! When we look closer at the aspects of urban sprawl, its main characteristic is blurring of the boundaries and
isotropy. In suburb, there is no clear distinction among different parts of the city, there are no clear
boundaries, whereas in traditional village or in the city centre unique parts differ in function, scale and form.
Therefore, it is rational to focus on limiting settlements in its spatial growth to reach through changed density
the possibility of recreation of public space comfortable to social life of inhabitants.
Currently, in suburb the community life is missing. This absence of social life cannot be seen as a problem of
Acupuncture method is based on Marco Casagrande´s thesis, takes its profit from small interventions into public space that can thus
have straight impact on inhabitants and community. This strategy based on minimal but effective
interventions seams to be a suitable solution in contemporary economical situation.

New space in Brno
check it out!!!4AM Forum for Architecture and Media – a meeting point for new approaches and diverse activities in the field of contemporary architecture and new media.
4AM activity is oriented in two directions:
The aim is to create an educational and experimental platform for contemporary architecture, which is still missing in Brno as well as in the rest of the Czech Republic. The intention is also to offer a open space for information on contemporary architecture and history of architecture accessible to general public via publications, databases, exhibitions and lectures. It will also serve as an area for architects and students and their creative work and experiments within international workshops or happenings.
The other target of 4AM is new media and recently planned Media-lab. It is to follow up the already existing Network Culture festival “Multiplace”, which has been taking place in Brno since 2007. The 4AM project is aimed to build a long-term functional platform in Brno and a base for activities in the field of contemporary visual and media arts – space for workshops and discussions, the library of new media.
4AM Forum for Architecture and Media will run Gallery of Architecture in Brno from January 2011 (supported by The Czech Architecture Foundation).
The 4AM team consists of theorists, architects, artists and specialists on contemporary audiovisual art and architecture

Ars Electronica is here again! With optimistic subtitle Repair – ready to pull the lifeline. Somebody from Linz must be our fan and got inspired by urban projects titles starting with RE. Maybe they also visited punk event Apokalyptikon and decided to explore postapocalyptic topics. “It is too late to be a pessimist” Yann Arthus Bertrand said, so we are curious how (not only) digital artists see that. This year we can enjoy the festival more than a week - 2.-11. september. I'm particularly curious about the 11...

...The arrangement of the city is constantly cut, impacted, expanded. The flux between the city and its inhabitants is a site of ferocious visual tension, with imageries generated so that they collapse and reformulate the perception of the city, its languages, its societies, its nationalities, its cultures.
Cinema is peculiarly spatial form of culture, because cinema operates in the organization of space.
Space in films and films in space are the general topics of these lectures. The relationships between the two, the geographical, historical contexts, and social and cultural processes are viewed through urban perspectives. Also included are theoretical map of architectonics as mobile as cinematic images, the apprehension of visual space with a delicate cartography of emotions connected with a special understanding of contemporary visual culture...
Cinematic extracts, for example, from these films are included with the course:
Godfrey Reggio: Koyaanisqatsi, 1983
Rene Clair: Under the Roofs of Paris, 1930
Joseph Cornell: What Mozart saw on Mulberry Street, 1956
Humphrey Jennings: Listen to Britain, 1942
Jacques Tourneur: Berlin Express, 1948
